Math.pow(planning, 143)
This is an event planning newsletter now, apparently.
Again a huge amount of stuff got done this week. Project listings are live (site) and we got the site and idea/project/participant workflow in good shape. Several idea and project submissions came in, so we have 22 ideas and 7 projects now. Each project has a Slack channel, and some initial group activity is starting to form, with still 2 weeks to go for the designathon. A big thing coming up will be to try to connect people and support projects in getting off to a good start. Should be fun, I'm excited for it.
Prizes should also be set. Super cool how generous the sponsors were (especially our humble mystery sponsor). Many preferred giving things (mostly their own products) over money, so we ended up with a wild mix. Was a little tricky to bundle that into prizes, but I think it works. Unless a lot more different feedback comes in over the next 2-3 days, the image below is what will go live on the site.
We also chatted about the designathon in the community call. TBH, there was fairly low engagement, I was hoping we'd get more people tune in, ask questions, etc. It will definitely be a lot of effort to reach people. If you can help with that, even in a small way, like Tweeting about the event, would be amazing if you could do that. Big things are made up of many small things.
Next week, a big thing will be to sort out the schedule. We will definitely have kick-off and wrap-up calls. Then we also want some workshops (Bitcoin UI Kit, Penpot, UX research...), open jam/feedback sessions, and potentially project-specific calls. Squaring that with Legends of Lightning, TABConf and Bitcoin Amsterdam activity will be tricky.
With the Bitcoin Core App, the areas we've been focusing on for design (onboarding, single-sig wallet creation, top nav) are getting to a point where we're done with exploration and can narrow in on a specific design solution. Nice to be able to detail something out, document it, get feedback via a prototype, and call it done for the time being, and move on to the next bits. We were a bit all over the place for discovery, now we can ideally work through user flows systematically.
Also got to test out two products this week. We set up a multi-sig wallet via Nunchuk (bit of a shaky experience) to handle price money for the event. And tested out the BitBox02 that the Shift Crypto team generously gave me in Riga. A really nice product, I'll have to wrap up my review and feedback next week and share it with them.
Another super busy week. All good things. Let's see what the next one brings.
