First day back from Oslo Freedom Forum, and before that family vaca.
What a spectacular event OFF is, I can highly recommend it. You get all these snapshots from around the world of people in dire situations, fighting for a better future. If you haven’t, maybe take a moment and watch some of the talks.
The third day was all about financial freedom and quite heavy on bitcoin Talks are not online yet, but will hopefully soon. While bitcoin does not prevent corrupt police from beating you up, it can be helpful in many ways to empower people. It can be a great parallel financial system to failing currencies, underdeveloped payment infrastructure, oppressive governments, etc.
As designers, I think we find ourselves as connective tissue between the real needs of people and the technology (and technologists), with the mandate to help bring them together in an elegant way. I find those uses presented at the conference much more worthwhile supporting than many other things crypto people talk about. So I hope we can find more ways to get involved with human rights issues as we move forward.
Now, there are just a few days until BTC Prague, just enough time to catch up with a hundred conversations and to-dos and prepare for the conference. I think we’re in good shape, just various last-minute things to take care of.
I’m not going to list detailed project to-dos in this update as I usually do, got a few more things to do this afternoon. I’ll keep it short and end with a major shout-out and thank you to all the lovely people I get to meet and work with. It's an absolute pleasure. Thank you.
