The big event this week as Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Like last year, we had a nice kick-off session with an intro and tips on how to test apps, and the rest of the days was open to anyone to choose their own adventure and do learn, discuss, improve, as they saw fit.
Personally, I tested 6 apps (4 Nostr, 1 Ecash, 1 Lightning) and was pretty disappointed about how bad the status quo is. The thing is that you get accessibility mostly for free if you just use native UI elements as they were intended to be used (like a button tag for a button instead of an image tag for a button). Sprinkle some labels on your icon buttons, and you’re in pretty good shape. But, the quality of craft in that regard is just not there, nor seems to be the interest. So let’s just keep at it, file issues, make fixes, raise awareness, make a difference and let’s turn the tide.
Big shout-out to everyone who participated in the accessibility day. Keep at it.
It is also time to wrap up the second edition of the card game. I’ll place the order this weekend so we get it in time for BTC Prague mid-June. There are 8 new cards this time.
But the bigger change is the addition of a proper box. Last year we had a plain white paper box, this time we go for a custom-printed rigid box.
And we’re also adding a cross-fold booklet, about the size of a business card.
I’m excited to see how it works out, and how the reception will be at the conference. It’s such a fun project.
Mo and Michael are also wrapping up posters and throws for the conference, and finalizing the program. Super nice to see things come together and shout-out to both of them for the great collaboration.
Here’s a first design draft for a bitcoin script editor I put together for Saving Satoshi chapter 9. I am finally learning some basics of script, thanks to my team mates. It actually kinda makes sense 😀.
Plus, we picked students for the Summer of Bitcoin projects. I’m looking forward to seeing them kick off their activities and working with them. Major shout-out to all who applied, please keep at it, and get involved anyways. It’s open-source. If you want to chip in, you don’t need to ask for permission.
And the Bitcoin Core App case study is live. Check it out, it’s awesome.
I’m only working part of next week, then there are holidays here and I’m off to the Oslo Freedom Forum right after. So these updates are going to be spotty the next weeks.
Have a formidable weekend.
