OK, another 3-week update. Had a nice week with family, then went to the Tuscany LN Summit, and then a week back to work. I have to say, after a month with 3 conferences, I am happy to be back in focus and get-things-done mode.
Great thing about the conferences was the people are absolutely excellent and whip smart and I consider many of them friends. And I feel much more up-to-date with current developments, which helps inform my planning.
But, my to-do list got extremely long and I’ve just been trying to work things off this week. Stuff like:
Planning furniture and program for the design track at BTC Prague dev/hack/day
Helping write another newsletter
Writing a documentation page for the snapshot (assumeUTXO) feature for the Bitcoin Core App, reviewing designs and supporting devs with testing PRs
Scheduling 10+ community events for the remainder of the month
Announcing the second grant of the foundation, discussing 4 more grants along with budgeting and fundraising plans
Catching up with Saving Satoshi tasks like the navigation update
Responding to Summer of Bitcoin students who are currently investigating projects to create proposals for.
Calls with some great people about UX research, hackathons, personal development feedback, lightning UX hang-ups, and other topics.
And just generally catching up with tons of threads…
The podcast episode with Mo and I at the Stephan Livera podcast went live. I am a big fan of the podcast, so it was a special treat to discuss design with him.
Here’s a video explainer about that aforementioned navigation update for Saving Satoshi.
The design review call yesterday with the Bitcoin Layers team was nice. I think it’s an important project. Having easily digestible security reviews of all these bitcoin layer 2’s (and pretend layer 2’s) can really help people make more informed decisions.
Goal is to support the project with brand & web design, similar to how we helped Wallet Scrutiny. We’ll have to kick off a proper design process, but I couldn’t help but get some goofy ideas out of my head around the general expression and tone.
None of this will likely make it into the final design. But I find it helpful to just get hands-on right away and get those first thoughts out and “on paper”. Makes it easier to keep going and explore further. Just need to make sure no-one falls in love with that early output.
Another week or so and I think I’ll be somewhat caught up with things.
Time to take a breather. Have a good weekend.
