I went to a Bitaxe presentation at the local bitcoin meetup this week, which was super interesting. A really passionate group, reverse-engineering ASICs and building their mining hardware, all open-source and community-oriented. Now I am tempted to also get one of those home miners (not for the economics, just for supporting the initiative and the network, and tinkering). It would ideally be one that also looks nice on a shelf and is not super loud and hot. There must be something out there.
Bitcoin Core App development is making good progress (nice discussion in this weeks call). We need to finalize the assumeUTXO feature designs for a first version, so we don’t block implementation. Yashraj is working on designs and I also tried to chip in. Here’s a video about where I landed so far.
Kept on working on the doc for human-readable addresses. I think it’s in decent shape. There is a good amount of complexity there, so I recorded an overview video.
The new Join page (formerly “Contribute”) is live. I hope it helps newcomers to the community find their way around more easily. I think next on my immediate list of guide work is to help with the Bitcoin Core App case study.
We still have more chapters to build, but Saving Satoshi is also becoming a bit more about experience tweaking. Is it challenging and rewarding? Does the world we present feel coherent? Are there enough clues for learners to dig into any aspect they might be interested in? Lots of little things to polish the experience.
Good things happening in the Foundation that we should be able to announce soon.
I’ll be in Berlin for FOSS Backstage next week, hoping to learn more about what makes open-source tick and how to navigate everything better.
Peace.
