First update for 2024. It’s been a nice break, and the past 10+ days were a very quick entry back into things. All the planning from the end of the year, now needs to turned into reality, little by little.
I spent some time thinking about how to move forward with our call schedule, and had various conversations around that. Some people are perfectly content just communicating via email, GitHub issues/PRs, and chat. Others respond much more to the group video chats. So having a few different calls formats for different purposes, and a reliable schedule, is a nice thing to have for the community.
Picked up the “Learning bitcoin & design” series again with calls around time-based recovery and covenants, and probably more coming soon about silent payments and FROST.
Starting a new format called a huddle, where we get hands-on and do design work. Could be collaborative, or just hanging out with everyone working on their own project. We’ll see how that pans out.
A design review with Resolvr. Also in conversation on planning two more.
Possibly picking up community calls again, with an adjusted format to be more about practically organizing things in the community (designathons, conference meetups, governance & foundation stuff…)
For the Bitcoin Design Guide and Bitcoin Core App, I spent time discussing roadmaps and cleaning up GitHub issues. Lots of loose ends there to tidy up. A bit tedious, but it hopefully simplifies and enables more collaboration. Fully embracing my project manager (aka janitor) role there. Did a tiny bit of design work documenting some layout logic, responding to conversation in a PR.
For the foundation, we’re actively talking to a few potential grantees, to get that process rolling. Practically speaking, we need more funding, and need to keep any grants we give fairly small at the moment. We’re also discussing how to promote the foundation (and in turn the community) throughout the year, supporting events/conferences, and some open paperwork things.
Other than our Monday call, I did not spend any time on Saving Satoshi. Main thing I can do there right now is to test and review. Once the next chapter lesson content is ready, there will be more design work.
And I’ll help with a hackathon Conor is organizing at Advancing Bitcoin. That will be fun.
Mo and I published another edition of the newsletter. Check it out.
Let’s go ‘24.
