Hooray, the Bitcoin UI Kit plugin is now live. The design file also got a re-publish with a new approach to theming (which the plugin enables), some new designs, and lots of under-the-hood tweaks. The website still needs updating, and the next steps are to create more tutorial content and case studies (probably next year then). Big next mission is to get more visibility and adoption (and another long-term contributor).
For the design guide, the new multi-wallet reference design is live. That one took a while to get right. The two reading sessions we had were very helpful in getting a sense for how the content comes across. Feedback on the page has been positive. Also nice to see the WalletScrutiny case study live.
Saving Satoshi chapter 5 is live, great work by the dev crew. On the design side, I’m a bit in support mode at the moment. The Legends of Lightning submission is due soon, so we were discussing a submission video. Some AI-generated fake movie trailers I saw on the socials sparked my interest, so I also gave it a whirl, see the video right below. Really cool what we can do today. This might be a nice way to start our submission video, and then go into a project overview.
For the foundation, we had more another call with a potential sponsors, another foundation, and also Open Collective to review the grant contracts we’re working. We’re waiting to hear back on several grant proposals. Still a lot of behind-the-scenes work to be done overall. But doing this now will put us in a good place for properly getting rolling in the new year.
On a somewhat related note, my applications for Prototype Fund (for a small project grant for an open design guide) and for FOSS backstage (for a talk) got rejected. Both times the feedback was that they had tons of applications (10x more than they can accept). Well, if we’re never getting rejected, we’re probably not trying hard enough. I think it’s also something we just have to expect when we venture outside of the bitcoin ecosystem. But we’ll get it next time.
For the Bitcoin Core App, I’m a bit in project manager mode, creating and organizing issues so discussions and design work can happen in a somewhat orderly fashion, updating documentation, reviewing & testing builds, etc.
And the latest newsletter went out. Always a pleasure to work on this with Mo. In the next year, I hope we can find another contributor to help out a little, along with community and social media activities.
Next week will be pretty busy, but I think (or hope?) that after that things will slow down a little as we get closer to the holidays.
I’ll leave it at that for the day. Have a good weekend.
