This week was a more hands-on, which was nice. I also spent a decent amount of time planning roadmaps.
We had a conversation in the design guide jam session (recording below) about ideas for 2024. It’s a big community project, so creating a roadmap is not a matter of a single conversation, but something that needs to brew and marinate. It also ties in directly with foundation work, since the foundation needs to project forward when fundraising. I hope we get to tackle some cutting-edge bitcoin tech next year, and also help implement it and get it in people’s hands in the best way possible.
I spent some time with PR reviews and repo maintenance, and we had a PR review session for the multi-wallet reference design. We only got about half-way through in the hour we had and scheduled another one for next week. We haven’t done this in a while, but the response was great, so maybe we need to make them a regular happening again.
I also spent time further mapping out the next steps for the Bitcoin UI Kit. Some things are clear that they need to be done from the current project status and prior conversations. But I’m also asking around on social media and looking at other design systems to see what they do well. The roadmap planning doc can be found in Discord. Having clear and actionable tasks might also help with finding contributors. Either way, I’m excited to see some of the ideas get done and out in the world.
In terms of the foundation, we just sent out two grant applications today. Really nice to get those done and now it’s fingers crossed. Admin, fundraising, and roll-out initiatives continue.
We also had a nice design planning session for Saving Satoshi Chapter 6 on Monday. The lessons are getting much more complex on the coding side, so a good amount of conversation is needed to find good solutions. It’s a lot lighter on the design side right now than on the lesson architecture. I stumbled across RunwayML, which can animate static videos and did a quick experiment with the Saving Satoshi home page cover image. Looks really nice. Would be amazing to get these visuals to loop and embed them in the site to breathe in some extra life. At some point I need to plan in a mini-project to up the quality of the visuals in the project once more.
Looking forward to next week, we have some interesting calls lined up. There’s the aforementioned design guide reading session, a UX research call, and a second design review with 10101 Finance around their stable coin user flows (which I hope will result in some guide material). I also hope we can get the WalletScrutiny case study and multi-wallet reference design reviewed and live. And I’d like to continue with roadmap idea gathering by checking out various project repos and forums to see what’s on people’s minds.
Only a few weeks left before Xmas and everyone starts zoning out. But still a good time to get a bunch of things done and plans in place for 2024. I started mapping out the year roughly already because I don’t think it will be possible to make good progress without a directional plan.
Also congrats to Hub21 launching, the new center of bitcoin gravity in Serbia. Shout-out to Johns, Pav, and crew.
And that’s it. Have a good weekend.
