The Etta Wallet design review was really inspiring this week. Collin did a fantastic job with the project, and both him and Daniel (via BDG Wallet) are pushing in a similar direction of creating implementations of the Daily spending wallet reference design and the Bitcoin UI Kit. Not sure why that didn’t click for me earlier, but this seems like the next logical step to take the layers of resources we have, and then build the next layer on top. Would be amazing if we could not only offer best practices and mock-ups in the guide, but also have a full working wallet ready to download and use (or fork and make your own). Now how can we turn these solo projects into community-owned projects? Especially as a design-focused community, we may need to be clever about bring in the needed development savvy. Something to seriously think through and discuss post-Prague.
The Wallet Scrutiny crew is almost ready to soft-launch the redesign, which is also really exciting. There is some polish and detail to sort out, which is totally normal, and can be done hand-in-hand with incoming feedback. Here’s the staging link. In the video below we discuss the status of the project.
Also kept iterating on Saving Satoshi Chapter 3 this week. We resolved various details and should have a well-defined design now that should be straightforward to implement. Here’s a clickable prototype.
When working on Chapter 2, I was pretty stuck with image generation and wasn’t sure if it can all be done to the quality level and level of control that I’d like. But working with Mr. Copy Guy and Yegor, and lots of experimentation, I feel like it’s going to work out well. Below are some images of indian bitcoin miners, exploring the range of more realistic sci-fi vs drifting off into fantasy lands.
Generating those images is mostly fun, but I really need to wrap them up in a timely manner. Too many other projects need attention. Maybe this needs to be time-boxed to one specific month over summer, or so. Lots to plan post-Prague.
Speaking off, the expo slideshow and my two presentations for the hackday are also in good shape. All the planning has nicely come together, there isn’t any stress now since we prepared it all pretty well in a timely manner. Big props to Mo and Michael.
On a very minor note, you can now edit your profile on Nosta. It’s basically there, but needs polish and some more smarts.
Not sure if I’ll post an update next Friday, I’ll be hanging out at the expo booth then, hopefully having lots of interesting conversations. BTC Prague week is finally here. If you’re attending, let’s meet up.
