After a very nice week off, this one was stuffed to the max with messages and meetings. All good stuff, projects are going great, just a lot of questions, discussions, and coordination.
Let’s start with the big surprise, Nosta won 1st prize the Nostr hackathon, in the build track even. I am super pumped. There were various projects that were way more experimental with Nostr than Nosta. I wasn’t sure how much time to keep putting into Nosta, but looks like it resonates, so let’s do it. Major thanks to Johns and bolt.fun for organizing the event. I got some feedback about open-source the code, so I’ll get on that as well. It will take a bit of time though because I am just absolutely swamped with no sign of things easing up soon.
The biggest design work sprinkled into the mix this week, which we wrapped up just this afternoon, was for a Bitcoin Design booth at BTC Prague. Here’s what we came up with.
It’s a 3x3m space so it needs to be laid out well for it to be comfortable. With the long table down the center, it should create a nice space for people to walk in left and right and gather around the table to chat, pop open a laptop, discuss projects shown on the screen, etc. The image is AI-generated, a nice beach-like texture with fun colors, that is not too overpowering. We have a bunch of ideas for discussion points and activities, still lots to be fleshed out as our planning continues. Thanks to Mo and Michael for collaborating on all this.
Jarol presented the Bitcoin Core App at Bitcoin Park and got great feedback. Mo organized a test session this week, which results in some really good insights for improvements to make. Design-wise, I’m in support mode right now, responding to requests, replying to PRs, etc.
Same goes for Saving Satoshi. I am mostly in design support mode while development work is being done. However I need more time very soon to continue image generation and chapter 3 design work.
Wallet Scrutiny currently consists of a series of mini-projects, which each one having it’s own status:
Home page (design specs & implementation)
About page (content)
Methodology page (content & layout)
Wallet page (implementation)
Branding (logo concept exploration)
We also had a kick-off call with Fedimint, who are looking to really beef up their design process and work. As a design project, this really reminds me of Jam, the JoinMarket web UI. A similar constellation of project organization and phase, and type of design work to be done. We’ll set up a process to kick things off for the next few weeks in a structured way, and hopefully a good designer can be found to help lead this effort.
Plenty of activity also around the guide, as the jam session has shown. There’s also a good amount of planning to be done, to figure out how we can beef up the savings wallet reference design to include key rotation, inheritance, wallet archival, social recovery, complex spending conditions, ordinals and other stuff. That will be our next big mini-project.
I’m thinly spread and it’s at the borderline of affecting how thoughtful I can be about things, and how quickly projects move. Wrapping up design work for Wallet Scrutiny will likely be the best way to reduce the load, so I’ll try to do that.
