Let’s see, summarizing three weeks in a fast and scrappy way is a bit tricky, especially since BTC Prague happened, which left me with a lot of impressions.
Good thing the latest Bitcoin Design newsletter covers some of that action. I was really happy with how it turned out. Great people, great talks, our changes to the program worked out really well, and the weather was also fantastic. Hope everyone else felt the same.
Now events are over for a bit, after being super busy with the Designathon, Oslo Freedom Forum and BTC Prague in fairly short order. Summer is going to be, for the most part, nice and event-less, meaning it’s time to tackle and wrap up various other projects that have been lingering and require focused and organized effort.
Bitcoin Design Education
I probably mentioned it that we did quite a few pilot projects over the last year setting up more organized education events and programs. We’ve always done a lot of education in the community, but it’s become pretty clear that we should structure these better. This is something Mo and I are currently trying to sort through, and there’s quite a lot to consider, since we want to tie it in with all the different collaborations and partnerships we have going on. It will probably be a series of studios/pathways for cohort-based self-guided learning, coupled with partner programs like UX bootcamps, fellowships, Summer of Bitcoin, etc. More to come. Once we feel like we have a decent structure, which should be soon, we of course want to share it with the community and various contacts to get feedback.
Goal is to have a proper pipeline to bring designers into the ecosystem, with all the knowledge they need, and into projects to make good things happen and live happily ever after.
Also want to push this one a bit forward this Summer. Nothing major, just want to address some obvious gaps, iterate the content a bit, and give it more visibility. This guide might end up being one studio/pathway in the education effort, to help get designers onboarded and super-effective in the ways of open-source.
5-year report
The community is turning five this summer, and we want to create a small report showcasing all the amazing things that everyone did and achieved. So that’s in the works and will also become a more public community thing very soon.
Guide and Activist research evaluation
On the research side, we interviewed a bunch of people about their use of the Bitcoin Design Guide, which needs to be summarized and shared. Then there’s also the final report for the interviews we did with activists at the Oslo Freedom Forum (which I presented an early evaluation of in Prague). Mo, as our researcher par excellence, is going to lead those with me chipping in as needed.
Bitcoin Core app
The presentations and demos at BTC Prague were well received, I think people are generally in board. Next, we’ll continue building out the wallet features and polish the UI, and Johnny is going to spend time on exploring how the code/repo should best co-exist with the main Bitcoin Core repo. For me, that means design tweaks, testing, and also chipping in on the UI code on the polish side. So nice to see this come together.

Few more things going:
Grant renewals and fundraising for the foundation
Help plan an AI workshop series
Get back into a rhythm of regular Bitcoin Design Guide contributions
Chip in on the Presidio Bitcoin Design Week planning
And there is always some base-level of calls and conversations with lots of different people on even more different topics.
Alright, brain is empty, so that’s it. Have a good weekend. You’re the best, I am super proud of you.
Peace ✌️🇺🇦
