Another 3 weeks have flown by. Not really actually. Getting wisdom teeth removed, or more-so the recovery, took me out for a good amount of time. Not fun. Various health-related things happening in the family this month for some reason (nothing super serious), so that took a bit of precedence. All good though, still getting a few things done.
FOSS Backstage is coming up soon, so I started putting together a presentation for the Open Design Guide and wrapping up the open PRs. I think it will come together pretty nicely.
I started chipping in with some design concepts for a campaign that goes under the working title “Save our wallets”, to promote this bill. Still mostly an exploratory thing, we’ll see what happens.
The 4-week learning bootcamp program we put together for Summer of Bitcoin is live, and students are already following it. Very interesting to see the responses and how they find their way through. I am also currently reaching out to various people around submitting projects for Summer of Bitcoin and/or mentoring. If you’re interested, reach out.
For the Bitcoin Core App, we now have a working group and a Signal group and are participating in the weekly IRC meetings to give updates. Things are moving on the dev side, and I also put together a concept for updating bitcoincore.org so it’s a bit more accessible and functional. There is a lot of interesting conversation happening (example), which is making us think hard about the project. I love it. I am trying to be mostly in a supporting role at the moment, hoping I can help ensure smooth progress.
And a small experiment, seeing how good the AI video creation tools are. This is a script created by ChatGPT, and a video via HeyGen. Pretty wooden overall, but there’s a ton of potential there. I’d love to be able to run all these AI tools locally, but they seem to require some pretty complex toolchains and powerful hardware.
Other than that, there are always various smaller things happening to keep the community and foundation going, and support others with various things. And it’s time to start ramping up planning around the second Designathon, BTC Prague, and Oslo Freedom Forum. Still a few months to go, but better early and in control than hectic and at the last minute.
And I quite enjoyed the design review call with the Proton Wallet team. Check it out.
So that’s that. Happy Saturday.
