February 3 already, time flies. Does not feel like I designed very much the past 2-3 weeks, it’s just been so much organizational activity. But that’s all good for the start of the year, it’s going to make the remainder a lot smoother.
Hey, the page about human-readable address is live. Check it out. Now time to promote this one a bit and see what adoption looks like. Also, got another PR open. This one is a small one, to add watch-only wallets to the common use cases page.
Lots going on with the core app. We’re trying to define a launch date for our proof-of-concept version of the application that includes wallet features. That should provide the broader Bitcoin Core project and any interesting parties with a sense of where things are going. It’s important to communicate progress over time, in order to get feedback and ensure that things will be accepted by (most) everyone.
So it’s about prioritizing what needs to be done, adjusting collaboration to ensure everyone can be productive, having regular check-ins, identifying the right communication channels, and all the other thousand little things. AFAICT everyone is excited about this goal, and I’m excited to see it all come together.
Also lots of ongoing conversations around events, like I mentioned in my last post. It takes time, since it’s all community-based and communication happens asynchronous. The last planning call was helpful in getting an idea of what everyone would like to do, and it’s been cool to see various people stepping up and wanting to help out.

The next event will be to present the Open Design Guide at FOSS Backstage, together with Eriol. Not a huge amount of work to do, but the presentation and getting some of the open PRs done will take some back and forth. This one is a great opportunity to (hopefully) rally designers around open design, and also get what we’re doing more broadly in front of more open-source people who run organizations (lots to learn there).
Summer of Bitcoin just opened up applications. Mo, Paperpsych and I are working on a curriculum for a 4-week self-guided course for the design track. Another one of those missing pieces in all the learning material we already have. Really more of an exercise in taking what we have and putting it in a different format for a different use case. Should be helpful in preparing the students for the main part of the program where they contribute to projects. Which reminds me, I also need to reach out and see who’s willing to mentor (if you are, let me know).
Feels like it’s just been 100,000 messages and Google Docs recently. That’s how things are done these days.
And now for something completely unrelated to bitcoin, I enjoyed this concert.
Happy Monday ✌️
