This felt like a long week.
Let’s start with something fun. For Saving Satoshi, I worked on a new cover image with updated characters and the new font. I think it’s a nice improvement over the previous version (always knowing of more things to improve, but progress happens step by step).
Also explored our bartender Laszlo character in chapter 10. As mentioned in last week’s video, he’s guiding us through the game mechanics in lightning. We construct transactions, and he keeps pointing out things that need improvement. It’s a nice interplay. Getting consistent images that tell a sub-story of their own, while staying relevant to the chapter progress is going to be a challenge though. So far, so good.
For the Bitcoin Core App, there has been diverse progress across the send and receive flows. Those are super sensitive and central user experiences, so I think it’s fine to explore deeply there. Hoping though that we can finalize things soon. Did a review of the PR that adds the “Add wallet” button in the main UI and hooks it up to the wallet creation flow. Really nice to see that in.
For the Open Design Guide, we had our first reading session. It was a really nice group, including two very experienced open source designers from outside the bitcoin ecosystem. I’m really hoping we can get an even more diverse group together, so this becomes a super useful resource (so we get more designers in, and have everyone be more comfortable and effective). PRs from the feedback are ready, and call #2 is booked for next week.
And it just seems like there is tons of interest in having a well-organized education path in the bitcoin ecosystem for designers. And it also seems like people see the Bitcoin Design Community and Foundation as the organizations to make it happen. Which is awesome. It’s just going to take some scheming, resources, and lots of coordination and collaboration to make it happen. Mo and I started gathering ideas and will try to come up with a plan, and then work with everyone to structure this well and see it through. It’s going to be interesting to see how it all pans out.
As for the Designathon I mentioned last week, Mo and I had a chat and don’t think we can take the organization. We’re just so busy across all our involvements. As we find ourselves more in coordination and facilitation roles, especially as foundation admins, there are just some things we can’t get to anymore. Good thing is that we have a design community, and there are others who can help out. Most likely, we’ll have the Designathon in early 2025 and a broader group of organizers.
On a side note, I am listening to the audiobook of Autocracy Inc, which talks about how modern autocratic stats operate, and cooperate. Bitcoin was mentioned somewhere in chapter 5 as a tool to circumvent financial oppression. Nice to see/hear.
And that’s how the cookie crumbles. Have a splendid weekend.
